Spontaneous combustion              Sep 23, 2008 - 07:51 AM

Heard this poet Lindsay who was pretty good. Around the middle of the poem she paused and said 'I miss you,' which stabbed to the heart.

Tom, announcing me, said it had been over a year since I last read there. I mentioned, when I got to the mic, that the last time I had read was at the Laughing Goat.

Time Fries.

The moment before I read I could feel the energy go through me, what other people call nervousness, but which I now call "building energy" and "anticipation." My name was called and I disappeared out of my head.

I read Tracks and Helen, of Sparta, which I think were received well. I felt the self- doubt creep in on Helen, but powered through it, knowing that many times it is just that negative self-talk that I am trying to escape by doing this in the first place. Don't be inside your head - get outside your head. Escape self-doubt and negative inner talk and power through it. Spontaneous combustion. Go up in flames.
