Train wrecks and crossing guards              Aug 21, 2008 - 07:51 AM

The opposite ends of magnets
are drawn to each other
inexorably, irresistably

flung like acrobats
bodies
spinning through time,
through space

In the moment,
the moment before the moment
we decide: hold our breath
or release and exhale

snap together and apart
connected by the sound of weeping
of happiness and sadness
found and lost
and found...

looking sidewise
the skeptic and the critic
circling

cheated by a pretty face
my god: I dreamed of you last night!
Night of a Thousand Dreams!
fairytales and stairways to heaven...

I will build my faith here
I will stand my ground
as it erodes beneath me
what is worth your courage
who do you call kin?

What is it exactly
that you are willing to live for?
'cause dying's easy

A child's crying?
A friend's dying?

I flourish
and when I do not flourish
I endure
and when I can't endure
I give in
but
I don't give up

friend

hold my hand
here, here it is
take it.
