Too thin to win

Fragile gestures of a too thin to win girl
Anorectic febrile eurythmy,
the pale convulsions of the undernourished
a third world vision in a 1st world world

Imagine it
Yourself as the enemy
your hunger and obsession
You fool yourself girlfriend
you never stop eating
you may stop eating food
but you start eating yourself
Your fat and muscle and gristle and bone
the 4 food groups

And for what? And for whom?
What race are you running?
And what are you running from?
You're too thin to win girl
Are you trying to disapear?
Become 2 dimensional
lie down and become the horizon?
the new moon, a piece of paper held sideways
(paper, oh rival mine...)

And if you keep this up you will disappear
that's what I fear
as you count calories, I count your heartbeats
fading, one more till you die, one less with me
Your grandest gesture, your triumph in low calorie
gymnastics
your no carb intake

You measure your progress in backwards steps
the horizon fading like your heartbeats
the thousand mile stare turning to millions, billions, trillions,

trilobytes and dinosaurs, biblical and archaic
to be one of the ascetics, like Buddha, like Lance Armstrong
no talent except for one: to give up that which is essential
mark progress in organ failure and other people's concern
their well-placed concern

Send flowers: great progress was made
Send your animadversions to this address
written on blue lined paper - my thin rival
but I can beat Jackie paper, I can beat the thin white line
I can beat memory and forget. Forget to eat, forget myself
turn sideways and disappear.
