Cloverfield, now shot in Vomitvision!              Feb 11, 2008 - 20:33 PM

So, I took a Dramamine since I heard about the first person shaky camera in Cloverfield, and 15 minutes into it I was thinking, "Hmm, not so bad, the drugs seem to be working!" The 20 minutes in, "Erg, what's that feeling in the pit of my stomach? Ahh, it's nothing, just ignore it." 30 minutes: "Oh lord, not again..." Got nauseated, mos def. I had to look at something solid, so I stared at the wall pattern to the side of the screen, looking at the movie from the corner of my eye. Yep, 2/3rds of the movie was seen from my periferal vision. I would only look at the movie straight on when something exciting/gory/frightening was going on, which was alot, and then go back to staring at my corner, trying to keep the gorge from rising.

But, at least the Dramamine kept me in the theater. When I was watching "Dancer in the Dark" after about 20 minutes I had to close my eyes. Imagine going to a movie, and only listening to a third of it. I was still about to hurl because behind closed lids I was imagining the shaky handheld camera movements. So, I finally got up and left, went to the bathromm, dropped trou and just sat on the porcelin and leaned my spinning head against the wall.

I think next time I'll have to take, like, three Dramamine, or else just see it as a rental on the small screen - shouldn't be nearly as awful an experience.

Anyway, it was enthralling enough to endure nausea, pain and suffering. Checkit.
