Make Your own Luck Aug 05, 2007 - 22:53 PM
Interview either tomorrow, or Tuesday. Saw a psychic when we went to Crestone who said I would definitely get the job. I guess that means it's preordained, yo. Just to make sure I am down with Spirit I went shopping for a suit. Went to a suitshop and they said they could get it tailored in two weeks, one week tops. I need it tomorrow. So I go to a department store and after trying on what feels like 50 suits I find one that works: Black, wool, 2 buttons with pleated front pants. New black shoes, white shirt and a yellow tie. I feel badass (in a corporate sort of way). I was going to go with a charcoal grey pinstripe, but I thought I'd wear the black out more often, so I went widdit. I pay 2 large, which is a pittance for a suit, but my body type is on the average side, meaning I can wear off-the-rack and it looks fine. The pants might be a half inch too long, the waist might be taken in a 1/4 inch, but really: do nothing and people will think the suit has been tailored. I go over test questions, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Uhm, well probably doing your job. "Describe a situation where you have encountered a problem, and how did you resolve that problem" Well, this cocksucker kept taking my work as his own. He also had the annoying habit of asking me a question, and right as I am trying to answer it he interrupts and answers it himself. So, in the middle of a meeting I cut him off at the knees, told the boss that we would have been on time if so-and-so didn't call in sick all week while he was really in Vegas. A week later he was fired. Anything else? The key is to remain calm, be prepared, try not to be impulsive, which is a fight or flight reaction. Really listen, ask questions if the question is not clear. Ask them questions since You are also evaluating Them. Remember that if you are called in for an interview, then your qualifications, at least on paper, fit the job description. Find out if the job is what they say it is. Are there things outside your expertise? Is the job posting a complete lie? What is the position really? I have all the above and more on my mind. The psychic also told me about other things on my mind, I didn't even ask a question, she just told me the answers I was searching for. If I get the job, which she said I would, that means I will take on faith that the other things she says are also true. Not that I am looking for evidence. I am evaluating based on the information given. I will go through all the efforts to make it true as I would normally. I have the suit. I have prepared my answers. I had an old teacher who told me that '...Luck is preparation meeting opportunity.' I make my own luck. I preordain what I want, then do what is necessary to achieve it. Then, and only then, do I give it up to the gods. Interview With the Assassin
